Position Summary and Qualifications:
Saint Joseph's University's Department of Theology and Religious Studies has an ongoing need for highly qualified adjunct faculty to staff a variety of courses each semester in Christian Theology. Professionals with experience and a passion for teaching college undergraduates will be given preference. Individuals should be familiar with the University's mission as Jesuit and Catholic and comfortable working within that milieu. At the same time, applicants should be aware that theology, as taught in this institution, does not assume any particular religious background and emphasizes critical thinking and careful analytical skills.
Part-time adjunct faculty may instruct 1 or 2 courses each semester on an "as needed"
basis. Courses available for adjunct staffing are offered during the day and also in the
evening in 14 week format, occasionally online.
Our primary need for courses in Theology is for the signature core course Faith, Justice and The Catholic Tradition. Other courses available for adjunct staffing may include:
- New Testament
- Christian Ethics
- Theology and Science
Duties and Responsibilities: - Teaching of a specified course/language (face-to-face, hybrid or online course(s))
- Preparation of materials
- Providing support and guidance to students
- Keeping posted office hours (1 hr per course)
- Giving prompt, regular feedback to students about their academic performance
- Reporting mid-semester and final grades electronically
Minimum Requirements: - Master's Degree in Theology or a closely related major
Preferred Qualifications: - Willingness to be flexible in class scheduling
- ABD or PhD in any theological subdiscipline preferred
- Previous teaching experience preferred
