Position Description The
Department of Anthropology at Texas State University invites applications for a new tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level in historical archaeology with an emphasis in the archaeology of Spanish colonialism or the African Diaspora in the Americas or Caribbean, to begin Fall 2025. The successful candidate will contribute to the department's baccalaureate degrees in anthropology, M.A. in anthropology, and Ph.D. in applied anthropology. Position responsibilities:
1) Teach introductory and advanced classes in archaeology, historical archaeology and applied archaeology in all degree programs, as assigned.
2) Provide practical training for undergraduate and graduate students.
3) Maintain an externally funded, active research program that results in peer-reviewed publications.
4) Mentor undergraduate, M.A., and Ph.D. students.
5) Contribute to service activities in the department, college, and university.
This position is subject to the availability of funds.
Required Qualifications - Earned Ph.D. in anthropology or archaeology at the time of hire.
- Research in the archaeology of Spanish colonialism or the African Diaspora in the Americas or Caribbean.
- An active record of publication.
- Experience in teaching, or the ability to teach, courses such as Introduction to Archaeology, Historical Archaeology, Archaeological Theory, Historical Archaeological Methods, a field school, and other courses as needed.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience mentoring students
- Experience with descendent community collaboration.
- Experience in methodologies and/or technologies that expand on those currently offered by the department.
- Evidence of external research funding, or a plan to obtain future external research funding that would support the candidate's research and/or teaching.
