Position The Director of Global Accounting acts as Bridgespan's lead representative on accounting matters and works closely with the FP&A, Audits & Compliance, Grants & Contracts and Development teams. Customers for this role include the Board of Trustees' Audit Committee as well as functional units throughout the organization. This role will lead the accounting function of the organization including Bridgespan offices in US and Asia and Africa. The Director of Global Accounting will report to the Vice President of Finance and Risk Management and will oversee a team of seven (4 in US and 3 in India). Candidate would ideally be located near our Boston, New York or Washington D.C. satelite office. We are willing to consider remote candidates who can work East Coast hours with semi-monthly travel to our offices. Responsibilities and Duties Global Accounting (70%): Oversee the operations of the accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, client invoicing, bank reconciliations, payroll, grants drawdowns and taxes. Lead the monthly close of the financial books of the organization; in coordination with senior members of the Finance team, institute changes necessary to reduce the monthly close time to 15th calendar day of the month. Oversee the preparation and presentation of accurate and timely financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports. Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations such as GAAP and payroll-related laws, in the US and in all regions where Bridgespan has a legal entity. Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures. Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure the integrity of financial data. Ensure that invoicing for all engagements is done in a timely fashion, track the AR Aging report and follow up on outstanding invoices. Ensure drawdowns for grants are done on a timely basis with consultation from the Grants and Contracts Manager; institute a system of monthly/ quarterly net assets reconciliation. Effectively manage relationships with accountants in Asia and Africa. Audit accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinate with outside auditors and provide needed information for internal and external audits. Treasury, Financial Systems, Compliance and Risk Management (30%): Serve as a valuable member of the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) implementation team. Effectively oversee all Bridgespan bank accounts and manage the organization's banking relationships with our various banks across the globe. Effectively manage the organization's credit card program, including performing regular analysis. Assist VP of Finance & Risk Management in effective management of the organization's investments. Assist Audits & Compliance Manager and VP of Finance & Risk Management in the annual audit and tax filing process for all Bridgespan entities across the globe. In consultation with the Grants & Contracts Manager, ensure subcontracts are in place with Bridgespan's international affiliates for cross-border funding arrangements. Lead annual IRS 1099 and other tax requirements for all Bridgespan entities across the globe. Co-lead the retirement plan audits. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements for all Bridgespan entities across the globe. Qualifications Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience in a non-profit organization, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing staff. Master's degree in Business (Accounting or Finance) or a combination of undergraduate degree in Business and CPA with relevant work experience is required. Experience in a professional services firm strongly preferred. Strong understanding of global accounting principles, including transfer pricing, intercompany transfers, international banking. Proficiency in accounting software and financial management systems. Experience with audits: US required, global preferred Experience in implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system highly preferred. In-depth knowledge of US non-profit finance regulations and compliance requirements required. Knowledge of global finance regulations and compliance requirements a plus. Track record of successful people management and development including across lines of difference; demonstrated ability to provide constructive and positive feedback, while motivating and holding team accountable for strong performance. Ability to build inclusive team environments. Comfortable working with team members at all levels across the organization including leadership. Proven experience of working with external auditors, legal counsel and vendors Comfort working flexible hours to support teams in Asia and Africa offices. High degree of professionalism, tact, and confidentiality required. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
