This fellowship will focus on conducting research, engaging in advocacy, and raising awareness about human rights violations connected to militarization, such as police violence, war-related displacement, and the erosion of civil liberties.

This fellowship offers a unique opportunity for individuals committed to social justice, human rights advocacy, and public policy reform.

Responsibilities

Research and Documentation :

• Conduct research on the human rights impacts of militarism, including police militarization, war crimes, refugee crises, and the suppression of civil liberties.

• Document case studies and compile reports on human rights violations and abuses connected to militarism, both in the U.S. and globally.

• Explore the role of military spending in exacerbating social inequalities, particularly in communities of color, immigrant populations, and other marginalized groups.

Advocacy and Policy Work :

• Assist in developing and promoting policy recommendations that advocate for demilitarization and the protection of human rights.

• Support legislative efforts to strengthen human rights protections and accountability for militarized actions by engaging with lawmakers, advocacy groups, and coalitions.

• Contribute to campaigns that challenge militarization in law enforcement and advocate for investment in human rights-focused social services, healthcare, and education.

Public Awareness and Outreach :

• Help organize and participate in public forums, webinars, and workshops aimed at educating the community about human rights and the consequences of militarization.

• Assist with public awareness campaigns, using social media, blogs, and other communication platforms to highlight human rights advocacy and justice issues.

• Support grassroots efforts to mobilize communities and build support for human rights policies and initiatives.

Collaboration and Networking :

• Work closely with human rights organizations, legal advocates, and policymakers to promote human rights-focused policies and programs.

• Build partnerships with advocacy groups and community organizations to strengthen campaigns for demilitarization and human rights protections.

• Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and networking events to represent Peace Economy Project and advance human rights advocacy efforts.

Qualifications

• A strong commitment to human rights, social justice, and advocacy.

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in human rights, international relations, political science, law, or a related field.

• Strong research and writing skills, with the ability to translate complex issues into clear, actionable reports and policy recommendations.

• Familiarity with human rights frameworks and the connections between militarism and social injustice.

• Experience in policy research, advocacy, or legislative work is a plus.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage in public speaking and community outreach.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment.

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Understanding of human rights law and international human rights frameworks.

• Experience with human rights advocacy, grassroots organizing, or community mobilization.

• Familiarity with issues related to police militarization, immigration rights, or the rights of marginalized communities.

• Knowledge of federal and state-level legislative processes related to human rights protection and accountability.

Benefits

• Gain hands-on experience in human rights research and advocacy.

• The opportunity to contribute to policy reforms that promote human dignity and challenge militarization.

• Build professional relationships with human rights advocates, legal experts, and policymakers.

• Mentorship and professional development through collaboration with experienced professionals in the human rights field.

• Flexible working hours and the ability to work remotely.
