PostdoctoralFellow Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
The Departmentof Biochemistry and Molecular Biology invites applications for the position ofPostdoctoral fellow.
Position Description Funding isavailable for a postdoctoral research position to work in the Department ofBiochemistry and Molecular Biology at Oklahoma State University (see
for more information on the Department).The applicant hired will work with the Chen laboratory ( on bioinformatics, genomic variantidentification, statistical modeling, and optimization for genomic applications.They will lead our computational effort to characterize the importance ofgenomic variants for predictive analysis and derive genomics-enabled solutionsfor forest management and tree breeding programs. They will contribute toexperimental design, method development, implementation, and data analysis, aswell as prepare manuscripts for publications. The postdoc will also be providedthe mentorship and professional development opportunities tailored to theircareer goals.
Salary Information Salary for thispostdoctoral position is $64,000/year plus benefits, excluding retirement (
Employment Conditions Thisis an 11-month temporary 100%research, non-tenure track position. Appointmentsare to be made for a term of one year or less. Reappointments for a totalperiod of not more than two years may be made. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position isfilled with a suitable applicant. Anticipated start date is January 15,2024.
Qualifications The idealcandidate will have:
1. A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatic, Statistics,Quantitative Genetics, or related fields with a focus on Computational and AssociativeGenetics, Predictive Analytics, or Optimization.
2. Strong background in genetics and genomics, and large-scalegenomic data integration.
3. Exceptionalwriting skills and the ability to work independently while guiding studentresearchers.
4. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Perlfor modeling and data analysis
5. Familiarity with relational databases, data management, andcomputational tools for optimization and decision support.
6. Excellent communication skill, team collaboration abilities,and a passion for translating genomic knowledge into practical solutions.
7. Experience with genotyping technologies, SNP array design, andpopulation genomics in plant or tree species is highly desirable, but notrequired.
